Running a business is no easy feat. In fact, I don’t believe there’s anything more heartbreaking than putting your heart and soul into a new product idea or marketing campaign only to see it hit rock bottom—and then some.
And to do so while you’re constantly flooded with a feed of “successful” entrepreneurs who are selling $5K courses and landing book deals only adds a big heaping spoon of salt to your wounds.
When you go at it on your own, sometimes the wins overtake the losses, and it can feel impossible to catch up to them. But it’s not—so long as you’re consistently pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
Those entrepreneurs who break through the noise and experience wild amounts of success are not more intelligent nor are they more talented. They’re just really, really good at being uncomfortable.
Here are three reasons why pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is absolutely essential if you want to grow your business.
#1: It’s A Reflection of Your Leadership
If you want to amass a large community, attract new clients or change the landscape of your industry, you’ve got to be willing to do what is uncomfortable.
People don’t follow those who are complacent and comfortable—they don’t even follow those who settle for average. People want to follow leaders, not followers. And that means you’ve got to walk the walk and talk the talk every single day, every hour of your business.
Even if it’s uncomfortable—especially if it’s uncomfortable.
If you’re not willing to put yourself out there and truly push past the boundaries that are limiting your success, then people won’t follow you. They’ll see it as a reflection of your leadership potential—and they probably won’t trust you.
#2: It Reminds You Where to Focus Your Energies
We all have unlimited potential, which can be paralyzing when trying to determine just how many mountains we can actually move. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone reminds you where to focus your energy, giving you a better understanding of what’s truly possible for you.
Successful entrepreneurs have a laser-sharp focus on the one thing that will propel them forward and bring them closer to their ideal clients. If they need to wear multiple hats to get there, they will—without hesitation.
When you’re pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, it becomes more difficult to focus on everything else that’s not working for you instead of on what is. You’ll want to focus all of your energy on the task at hand because nothing else matters when success is right in front of you.
#3: It’s Where You’ll Discover Your Secret Sauce
Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone forces you to find out what you’re made of and where your strengths lie. When you don’t allow yourself to be comfortable, you can’t help but discover all of the unique ways you’ll overcome adversity and create success.
When leaders find themselves in a place where they’re uncomfortable (and pushing through it), they’re forced to dig deep and uncover insights that will take their business to the next level.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my years of running my business, it’s that comfort is the enemy. Don’t let yourself get stuck in another cycle of complacency when you know you’re capable of so much more.
Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone will show you that there’s no end to what you can do when you set your mind to it.
