Now, I’m not a sales coach (though I do have a coaching certification), but I do know that consumers are reluctant to pull the trigger and purchase something from someone they’ve never met.

I took the long road to get here. In college, I had a job at a cell phone company where my job was to sell cell phones…when they were still in those ugly black bags (remember those?!). I didn’t know a thing about cell phones or sales, but I knew people. I was able to excel at my job, and when we had to make a move, I felt comfortable enough with sales to take a job at a used car lot (yup, I totally sold cars).
I worked at the car lot for exactly two months. And made $30,000. I quit because selling started to feel sleazy and it just wasn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
A few years later I found myself working at a law firm while I finished up my pre-law degree. I ended up being the rock for people whose lives had not turned out as they’d planned. For me, it was all about making them feel valued and heard – especially since everything else in their life was a huge question mark.
This was my wake up call, y’all.
I love people, and I realized that I didn’t want to be a lawyer – sure the money sounded great, but I would miss out on the connection. I was in it to make a difference in the lives of the people that I connected with.
Fast forward to having my son, and I realized that while I loved making those connections (and making a difference), I did not love the mental drain that was happening.
I knew things had to change, so I decided to figure out how to make it online. I wanted my kids to see that my work made a difference and didn’t drain me.
But that wasn’t the case – the clients I was working with worked crazy hours, never took a vacation, and always seemed so stressed out.
I knew there was a better way, so I made it my mission to do business differently. I set up office hours, turned off my computer in the evening and weekends, and got really, really good at setting boundaries.
You can have boundaries that create freedom, too.
You can wake up excited to work ON your business, and not feel like you’re drowning in it.
You can have product sales while you’re sitting on a beach – actually taking a vacation.
