If you’ve ever felt like your content is stuck in a sea of sameness, you’re not alone. Creating compelling content isn’t as easy as it used to be.
Lemme guess…you’re feeling a little burnt out posting content that seems to disappear into the digital abyss.
Or maybe you’ve been struggling to connect with your audience (and wonder where the heck all of your likes, hearts, and comments have gone).
Or perhaps you’re lost in a sea of buzzwords and jargon.
I totally get it. In fact, those reasons are exactly why I stopped consistently posting to social media regularly.
And yes, you read that right. Now, you’re probably wondering why. Well, the truth is pretty simple: fighting to stand out online isn’t something that is high on my priority list.
Now, I’m not saying you should stop posting – instead, I’m going to share something that I’ve been deploying in my own business + my client’s copy that actually works (and doesn’t make you want to throw your laptop into the nearest hard surface).
Ready?
There are only TWO focus areas that you should be thinking about when you’re creating content:
- Education
- Leadership
Let’s dive in, shall we?
Compelling Educational Content
Let’s get one thing straight: educational ≠ boring. In fact, when done well, educational content delivers value, shifts your audience’s perceptions, and builds trust fast. To use it well, you need to:
1. Deliver Value
Like I do for my amazing clients, I pour my heart into creating copy & content that provides massive value. It’s all about teaching your audience the HOW and encouraging them to take action.
2. STAHP Gate Keeping
Here’s the truth: Your content is a reflection of your expertise. If you gate keep the “good stuff” how will anyone ever decide that you have the solution to their struggle? How will they know you can solve their pain?
Treat your free content like it’s PAID content (because, as an expert, you have a LOT more depth of knowledge than you’re currently tapping into. Trust me on this one.
Treat all your content like it’s PAID content.
3. Focus on Quality Over Quantity
Listen, you can drive yourself crazy trying to be everywhere all the time…but if you allow yourself to take a step back and focus on delivering top-notch everything, the clients that you want to be working with will be queuing up to pay you for proximity.
4. Be Real.
Share real-life insights – whether it’s that time your husband used cucumber instead of zucchini in the stir fry (🤮), the lesson you learned from sending out that offer without a working link, or stories from your short-lived used car saleswoman career – people want to work with other people. Crazy, I know. But it’s true.
Now, let’s dive into the realm of leadership content. Shall we?
Compelling Leadership Content
True leadership isn’t about following trends – it’s about setting them. Leadership content isn’t safe. It challenges the norm and strives to shift perspective. Great leadership content is hella authentic, and 100% YOU.
1. Speak Your Truth
This is one that sounds easy, but it requires you to stick your “neck” out a little. Focus on the things you know to be true about your expertise. Engage your audience by asking thought-provoking questions that challenge the common perspective.
2. Lead By Example
Share “behind the scenes” content about your methods and expertise. Need examples? Here you go:
- Show, Don’t Tell: Instead of simply saying you’re an expert, showcase it. Share your thought process, your strategies, and your experiences.
- Case Studies: Showcase real-world examples of how you’ve helped clients or solved complex problems.
- Authentic Stories: Share personal anecdotes that highlight your journey, your personality (they’ll be working and learning from YOU, after all!), and lessons you’ve learned.
Now that I’ve shared the “what,” let’s talk about the “how.”
Take Action
To supercharge your content & attract those dream clients:
1. Simplify Your Message
Overcomplicating your content is a guaranteed way to lose your audience. Instead, shoot for providing clarity and delivering with simplicity. Your readers will appreciate it.
2. Celebrate Your Wins
Reflect on your most recent wins (as long as they’re related to your expertise in some way). Share educational content about those wins. When you share your victories, you not only inspire your audience but also establish your authority.
3. Challenge the Status Quo
Share your opinion about what’s unnecessary to achieve a transformation in your niche. When you challenge conventional wisdom, you position yourself as a thought leader who’s unafraid to disrupt the norm.
