Launching a new product, program or service is a natural part of running a successful business. You have to keep your customers interested and engaged with your brand by continuously offering a stream of new ways you can help make their lives even better.
So it helps to get really good at launching 😉.
As a content and growth strategist, launches are kind of my jam. And I’ve learned a thing or two (or 10) about how to do it right.
Here are my top 5 tips for creating a successful product launch:
1. Do Your Research
Before you do anything else, you need to know who your customer is and what they want. You can’t build a product that’s going to help them if you don’t understand their problems first.
Lean on communication tools like email marketing, blogging, social media, and video to start understanding how your customers feel about the space you’re about to enter. What do they say over and over again? How are they tackling the problem you’re about to solve?
If you can show that you’ve been actively listening, your customers will be more apt to trust your words when it comes time for your launch.
2. Create A Detailed Timeline
What are you going to be doing? When are you going to do it? How long will each step take?
Outline your entire launch process, from start to finish. This can serve as a guide for everything you’re about to do leading up to the big day. And if something extra comes up that shifts priorities, it’s always better to be over-prepared than under-prepared.
3. Enlist The Help Of A Launch Team
You’re not superman, so you’ll need some help getting your launch across the finish line!
Identify all of the roles that are needed to get your product launched and put together a team of either your employees or contractors who will handle their specific tasks for you. If you’re bringing on contractors, you’ll want to line up their specific responsibilities in advance so that they know exactly what to do.

4. Build Anticipation Through Valuable Content
No one likes to be sold something. Today’s consumers put most of their trust in brands and businesses that can offer valuable information and ideas that make their lives better.
So while you’re planning your launch, make sure you’re creating content that will be valuable for your audience. Blog posts, videos, interviews, and other types of interests building content can help bring in leads and build anticipation for what’s coming next.
Content should set the stage for your launch, so the more value you can offer to your audience in advance, the stronger impact it will have when you go live.
5. Offer Incentives
Finally, make sure you’re offering incentives to get your audience excited. Sometimes people need an extra push to purchase, so make it worth their while.
Here are a few awesome incentive ideas we’ve used:
- Give out a free ebook with tips about how to solve the problem that your product solves for people who sign up for your launch waitlist
- Offer an exclusive early bird discount
- Give out product discounts (and freebies!) in exchange for shares, likes, and follows on social media before you go live
The Bottom Line
Launching a new product can be an extremely exciting time for any business. It’s also one of the most difficult because there are so many moving parts. But with a little bit of planning and the help of the right team by your side, you can make it happen!
