Chances are, you’ve thought a lot about your target market.
What their paint points are, how much yearly income they might make and what price points they’d be comfortable with to purchase your services.
That’s all good and dandy — but a surface-level understanding of who you’re selling to is not enough to reel them in.

If you reeeeally want to understand your target market, you’re going to have to dig deeper. You’re going to have to do your freaking homework. Target market research can be a bear, but any extra effort you put in now will pay back in dividends in terms of how many new clients you can land.
So — how do you go about getting into the minds of your audience? To start, you need to ask yourself these three questions:
1. Where on the internet are they most active?
Does your ideal customer hang out in female entrepreneur Facebook Groups or do they prefer to chat in a timely Twitter thread? Figure out where on the internet people are talking about your industry and similar services you offer.
2. What are they complaining about?
When it comes to your service or product, what bothers your target audience the most? Stalk those Twitter threads and keep your eyes peeled for the most common complaints. And then, with total honesty, ask yourself:
3. Does my product/service solve that complaint?
If it does — great! Pop yourself right into that conversation and let them know that you’ve got the cure-all to this particular frustration. But if it doesn,’t, it’s time to rethink either what you’re offering or who you’re offering it to.
In today’s economy, consumers are tired of being toyed with. When every coach and company claims to have the ONE THING THAT WILL SOLVE X, Y AND Z, it’s hard to filter what’s real and what’s not.
Being successful as an online business owner is all about practicing what you preach. Making sure that you’re selling top-quality sh*t that people will be thrilled to purchase. You want to understand their expectations so you can meet them.
